As you celebrate Mother’s Day this year, take a moment to reflect on how motherhood changes at different ages. In the natural progression within a family, we move from active motherhood responsibilities to the more supportive duties of grandmother. Later, change may come again as we take on the role of great-grandmother.
Our children are adults, but still need a comforting, encouraging voice in their lives. Our grandchildren enjoy us as unique adult friends and companions.
We can also see how our own mothers look through the eyes of our Grands when they are surprised and fascinated to learn that their grandparents even have mothers. Sometimes you can almost watch the gears turning in the heads of younger Grands as they try to piece together how there are so many mothers in the family tree!
This is also a great time of year to reflect on how we model motherhood to our adult children and young grandchildren. Our clear communication, tender encouragement, and wisdom make all the difference to our growing families.
